Queen of Spears – A Music & Tarot Discussion

Sometimes learning to read Tarot is a real struggle! I mean learning 22 major arcana cards and 56 minor arcana cards can be daunting! Seriously, learning medical terminology was less work. Generally we learn things better when we can see or make connections. I’ve had a Tarot deck for 20 years now, and I still struggle with some of the cards. As I’ve collected more decks, I’ve also found that the meanings can be expressed and interpreted in a multitude of ways. So began my journey.

Music has been a major player in my life. Songs trigger emotions, transport us back to moments in time, and are basically the soundtrack to life! Why not connect each tarot card to a song? A few months ago I began doing just that. These posts have been evolving over time and I may return to update past posts once I have run through them all.  I hope you decide to join the conversation! There are no right or wrong, better or worse answers here. The idea is for YOU to connect with YOUR cards. Choose a song that works for you. There may also be MULTIPLE songs that could work for you. Learning tarot is process. I hope this helps you.

Just a special note: When writing these I consult a number of decks. Some are traditional Rider Waite system and some are not. My first Tarot, Legend The Arthurian Tarot, has Wands-Air and Swords-Fire. Honestly, this has always made more sense to me than the much more common associations of Wands-Fire and Swords-Air. So occasionally these other traits have influenced my choice.

The Queen of Spears is generally known to be self-possessed. While she can be nurturing and down to earth, she can also be very free and passionate. Underneath it all is a steel that reminds you not to mess with her. Independent and vivacious, she is sometimes the most alluring of the Queens.

I Love Myself Today – Bif Naked

One of the things that I love about Bif Naked is that she is completely and utterly herself with no apologies. The lyrics of this song express that she’s been hurt and now she’s moving on. Letting her passion, her fire, come through as her rage is unleashed. But she isn’t using that rage to destroy. No, she’s using it to build herself back up.  Many of the keywords are revealed here as she asserts her independence and courage to rise above and move on. Optimism is apparent when she says she’s moving on and that she likes what she sees in the mirror. Vocally she is vibrant, dominant, and dramatic which you can feel in the energy of the song as it pounds away everything she’s leaving behind.

What song would you choose?

I love myself today
Not like yesterday
I’m cool, I’m calm
I’m gonna be okay! Uh huh
I love myself today
Not like yesterday
Take another look at me now
‘Cause it’s your last look
Your last look forever

Bif Naked
