MY SONG CHOICE

All Summer Long – Kid Rock

Damn, I just love this song! Times like the ones Kid sings about are so far gone. But, hanging out with your friends, doing stupid crap and making amazing memories is where it’s at. The lyrics alone embody the sentiment of the Three of Cups, however, that Sweet Home Alabama riff lifts everyone up! Spending time on the beach and waiting for nightfall so they could party and rock n roll, man! Sounds like a Three of Cups party to me!

What song represnts this card for you? I’d love to give it a listen!

Talking by the campfire
It’s the simple things in life, like when and where

MY SONG CHOICE

Hunger Strike – Temple of The Dog

You might not think this songs suits all the keywords noted here, but I feel it does. Though, possibly in a roundabout way. Hunger Strike is about spreading the wealth because some people have so much and others don’t have what they need.  When Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder sing this powerful anthem, it makes you want to share what you have. To spread your wealth. For once you recognize that you have much, its much easier to share it.

In addition, this song invites you to raise your voice and join the melody. I remember being 22 and working in a shop when one of my co-workers started singing along with Chris and Eddie. Once he started well the rest of us did too. I think that is actually the highlight of working there. We didn’t have much back then, but we sure recognized the need to share.

I don’t mind stealin’ bread from the mouths of decadence
But I can’t feed on the powerless when my cup’s already overfilled, yeah
But it’s on the table, the fire’s cookin’
And they’re farmin’ babies, while the slaves are all workin’
Blood is on the table and the mouths are all chokin’
But I’m goin’ hungry, yeah

MY SONG CHOICE

Can’t Buy Me Love – The Beatles

You know, it is sometimes really difficult to choose songs. I mean everyone writes songs that express and explore pain and suffering. Even in my search for songs today, all the songs I came across had to do with being poor. While that may be the reverse aspect, I really wanted to choose a song that reflected the upright meaning of this song. I settled on Can’t Buy Me Love because they talk about buying whatever you want because, really, money doesn’t mean anything. Love is the true wealth. The lyrics of this song speak to that.

Side Note: I really wanted to pick a song from one of the albums in the photo but I’ve already used Pink Floyd’s Money and the other bands don’t really seem to give a fuck about money! LOL.

What song would you choose? I’d love to hear!

Say you don’t need no diamond rings
And I’ll be satisfied
Tell me that you want the kind of things
That money just can’t buy
I don’t care too much for money
Money can’t buy me love

Four of Spears is a card of celebrations. It represents the honoring of life events and achievements when we gather the clan(s) together to recognize these moments. Some common celebrations it refers to are receptions at a weddings or the ceremonies following graduations. It is the moments when you have achieved something but there is still so much ahead of you. We take this moment to honor what we have achieved but are still looking forward to bigger and better things.

MY SONG CHOICE

Celebration – Kool and The Gang

Ok. I know it’s kind of an oldie but, honestly, when I pulled this card, Celebration was the first song that came to mind. The whole song is about celebrating the good times. The lyrics don’t tell a story like some of the other songs I’ve mentioned have, but it really captures the spirit of a celebration. Coming together and having a good time which is really what the Four of Spears is all about. It’s also kind of a live-in-the-moment song which is super upbeat! What song would you choose?

On a side note: Doesn’t my musical representation today just fit perfectly?

There’s a party goin’ on right here
A dedication to last throughout the years
So bring your good times and your laughter too
We gonna celebrate and party with you

The Chariot – A Music and Tarot Discussion

THE CHARIOT

The Chariot is a card of decisions, will, focus, and choices. Often it also refers to travel. Ultimately it is a vehicle for change and you are the driver. When The Chariot appears it often refers to your choices, and your drive to succeed on your chosen path.

MY SONG CHOICE

Drive – Incubus

Sometimes when I am researching songs for the week’s Music and Tarot post I come across a song and I get a lump in throat and tears begin to burn at the back of my eyes. When this happens, I know, that I have found the song. While there were a few suitable songs for The Chariot, I feel that this one reflects both sides of the Chariot: the good and the bad. Lyrics like “Sometimes I feel the fear of the uncertainty stinging clear and I can’t help but ask myself how much I’ll let the fear take the wheel and steer” speak to how our doubts get in the way. In this song, he’s just coming to the realization that he needs to take control of his life and things are better when he does.

One of the points about The Chariot that has always resonated with me is the aspect of choices and how how our choices guide The Chariot where we want to go. We need to be sure of where we are going and what we need to do to get there. When we are, victory is ours. While this song doesn’t seem to be about victories, it is. If only in a small way. He’s come to a realization and that in and of itself is victory because it is the first step in a definite direction.

So if I decide to waiver my chance to be one of the hive
Will I choose water over wine and hold my own and drive, oh oh
It’s driven me before, and it seems to be the way
That everyone else gets around
Lately, I’m beginning to find that when I drive myself, my light is found

The Horned One – A Music and Tarot Discussion

MUSIC AND TAROT BACKGROUND

One of the best ways to learn something is through making a personal connection to it. Being that Tarot speaks to so many facets of life, lyrics lend themselves well to the cards. Music has power and we make connections to it on a regular basis. In a way, it’s magic because it can transport us back to moment frozen in time as the music and lyrics pluck memories from our minds.

THE HORNED ONE

The Horned One (aka The Devil) has a bad rap! He just gets blamed for EVERYTHING! But what he is really about is the base nature of people. When this card appears it represents our desires, our instincts, our temptations, our escapes, or less than moral choices. Some might say he represents the ID brain. Acting on our wants without recognizing the consequences. Giving in to pleasure even when we know it can be bad for us. Doing whatever we can to reach our goals without consideration for others.

  • Temptation
  • Seduction
  • Obsession

MY SONG CHOICES

First time ever, but I just CANNOT limit myself to one song when there are so many perfect ones! The Horned One is a favorite lyrical topic for many an artist.

The Devil in I – Slipknot
Devil Inside – INXS
Sympathy for the Devil – The Rolling Stones
Temptation – The Tea Party

The Devil In I

The Devil in I is actually a favorite of mine. The song is a little intense, and I’ll be honest, Corey Taylor could be The Horned One himself! He’s a walking temptation, but seriously, this song really points out where the energy of the Devil card comes into play: internally.  Lyrics like ” Something is tempting the father, Where is your will, my friend?” really highlight that internal struggle with willpower.

The Devil Inside

The lyrics of Devil Inside speak to the common “sins” of life: lust and pride. Even going so far as to suggest that hell is right here on Earth. Like Slipknot, they also indicate that battle with temptation and pride is waged within the individual. Sadly, Michael Hutchence lived a life right in line with all those temptations and it didn’t end well.

Sympathy For The Devil

Another of my favorite songs, Sympathy for the Devil, is an absolute classic and I would be remiss if I didn’t include it here! The lyrics of this song are both a bit mirthful and serious at that same time.  Switching back and forth between the showy “man of wealth and taste” and the evil influence behind the horrible things that have happened in the world.

Temptation

This last song, I feel fits the energy of the The Horned One more truly than the rest. The lyrics speak about being driven by our desires, our fears, our rage, and our loss of control. Chasing after the illusions and seeking escape from the reality of life. The music in this song is both exotic and makes you want to get lost in the beat. That’s definitely a form of temptation for me. Also,  Jeff Martin’s voice is kinda sexy.

Destined by a fate so cruel
And drugged to delight
Laughing as these lies unfold
I’ve lost all control
– The Tea Party

MY SONG CHOICE

The Gambler – Kenny Rogers

This song is a classic. Everyone and their dog knows it! Honestly, I wasn’t sure I knew it but I really like the lyrics and went to give it a listen. Sure enough, I KNEW IT.  But really, a mysterious stranger on a train giving you sage advice? Totally a magician thing. The lyrics talk about knowing when to play your cards, when to fold, when to run, and when to walk away. Overall, I think it is a great match for the Magician. He said, “Son, I’ve made a life

Out of readin’ people’s faces
And knowin’ what the cards were
By the way they held their eyes.
So if you don’t mind my sayin’
I can see you’re out of aces
For a taste of your whiskey
I’ll give you some advice.
