The Chariot – A Music and Tarot Discussion

MUSIC AND TAROT BACKGROUND

One of the best ways to learn something is through making a personal connection to it. Being that Tarot speaks to so many facets of life, lyrics lend themselves well to the cards. Music has power and we make connections to it on a regular basis. In a way, it’s magic because it can transport us back to moments frozen in time as the music and lyrics pluck memories from our minds.

THE CHARIOT

The Chariot is a card of decisions, will, focus, and choices. Often it also refers to travel. Ultimately it is a vehicle for change and you are the driver. When The Chariot appears it often refers to your choices, and your drive to succeed on your chosen path.

MY SONG CHOICE

Drive – Incubus

Sometimes when I am researching songs for the week’s Music and Tarot post I come across a song and I get a lump in throat and tears begin to burn at the back of my eyes. When this happens, I know, that I have found the song. While there were a few suitable songs for The Chariot, I feel that this one reflects both sides of the Chariot: the good and the bad. Lyrics like “Sometimes I feel the fear of the uncertainty stinging clear and I can’t help but ask myself how much I’ll let the fear take the wheel and steer” speak to how our doubts get in the way. In this song, he’s just coming to the realization that he needs to take control of his life and things are better when he does.

One of the points about The Chariot that has always resonated with me is the aspect of choices and how how our choices guide The Chariot where we want to go. We need to be sure of where we are going and what we need to do to get there. When we are, victory is ours. While this song doesn’t seem to be about victories, it is. If only in a small way. He’s come to a realization and that in and of itself is victory because it is the first step in a definite direction.

So if I decide to waiver my chance to be one of the hive
Will I choose water over wine and hold my own and drive, oh oh
It’s driven me before, and it seems to be the way
That everyone else gets around
Lately, I’m beginning to find that when I drive myself, my light is found

MY SONG CHOICE

The Gambler – Kenny Rogers

This song is a classic. Everyone and their dog knows it! Honestly, I wasn’t sure I knew it but I really like the lyrics and went to give it a listen. Sure enough, I KNEW IT.  But really, a mysterious stranger on a train giving you sage advice? Totally a magician thing. The lyrics talk about knowing when to play your cards, when to fold, when to run, and when to walk away. Overall, I think it is a great match for the Magician. He said, “Son, I’ve made a life

Out of readin’ people’s faces
And knowin’ what the cards were
By the way they held their eyes.
So if you don’t mind my sayin’
I can see you’re out of aces
For a taste of your whiskey
I’ll give you some advice.

MY SONG CHOICE

Holding Out For A Hero – Bonnie Tyler

I first heard this song watching the movie Streets of Fire with Diane Lane when I was just a young girl. Man did I love that movie, I think I might have to order it! Anyway, back on topic here. Some people feel that the Knight of Swords is really the Knight in Shining Armour as opposed to the Knight of Cups. Bonnie Tyler is belting out lyrics about finding a hero who is strong, fast, and fresh from a fight. Not to mention the energy of the song pumps you up and has you ready to go. Who’s more ready to go than the Knight of Swords?

I need a hero I’m holding out for a hero ’til the end of the night He’s gotta be strong And he’s gotta be fast And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight I need a hero I’m holding out for a hero ’til the morning light He’s gotta be sure And it’s gotta be soon And he’s gotta be larger than life

Crafting the Climax – NaNoWriMo Tarot

Crafting the climax is the aim of the game in this day’s spread from Tea is for Tarot. This is what everyone is waiting for! I mean, who isn’t striving for the climax, huh? Hee hee. Ok, back to business here. This happens near the end of the book and the point at which everything comes to a head. If you want to follow along, see Tea is For Tarot’s spread here: Day 12

The Cards

How does everything come together?
The High Priestess

Austin learns to trust her gut. Following her instincts and intuition she puts together a plan that just might save the day! Considering The High Priestess deals in the more ephemeral knowledge, Austin’s solution could be the result of a dream. Our subconscious tends to work things out and make connections while we’re sleeping.

What unknown factors will your hero face?
King of Swords

Back to information we come. Considering our villain, Darius, deals in information it isn’t hard to surmise that some sort of information blind sides our heroine. What information does he have that threatens Austin? It’s possible that his information has a legal impact on her, but it could also be something that impacts a large amount of people.

What challenges does your hero have to overcome?
Nine of Coins

She is going to have to overcome the desire to retreat. Austin doesn’t have the resources that Darius has, but he she DOES have resources. The trick is figuring out what they are and how to use them.

How will your hero overcome those challenges?
The Star

Hope. Somehow she finds a light in the darkness. Austin has been cultivating relationships and must have faith that these people will come through for her.

What happens afterwards?
Strength

She finds strength in numbers. Recognizes that she isn’t alone. Comes out stronger than she was.

Build Your World – NaNoWriMo Tarot

Build Your World is the spread for this day. Tea is for Tarot created a 5 card spread to flesh out the world Austin is a part of. Darn it! I didn’t notice that day that she had a bonus card in there! I took the photos every day but just didn’t have the time to do the blog while travelling. See Tea is for Tarot’s post here: Day 9.

The World

Where does the story begin?
Knight of Pentacles
This is Austin’s card! Will we begin the story in her mind? Could be we start out in her dreaming mind. Might make for a good start!

What place is Austin traveling through?
7 of Cups
A world of choices that looks to be quite an opulent place. Riches abound and there are just so many choices here it is tough to know which way to go. Could indicate a place where there are multiple paying mercenary jobs that are difficult to choose between.

Where does Austin find unforeseen help?
8 of Coins
This card is all about workmanship. This could indicate unexpected help arises in a market or a school of some kind.

Where does the major climax take place?
8 of Wands
Well, well, well. I’m thinking we have some sky action here! We know we meet a bunch of skydiving adrenaline junkies along the way. Does the climax occur in a plane? Or does it occur falling at high speeds from the sky? Oh the suspense is killing me!

Where does the story end?
5 of Cups
A little disheartening on first glance to be truthful. This card is deeply worrying but stepping aside from what the card makes me feel and looking instead at the imagery, I might discern an actual location instead of an emotional ending. The space is dark and dank and appears to have brick walls. Could be a basement, a tunnel, or dungeon.

The Love Story – NaNoWriMo & Tarot

The Love Story – NaNoWriMo and Tarot

The Love Story was a bonus spread that Tea is for Tarot  included on Day 8. (Bear with me as I catch up here! I was travelling over the weekend.) This spread was designed to introduce our heroine, Austin, to her true love!

The Cards

Represents Austin in the relationship.
2 of Cups
Interesting. I believe this represents her feeling comfortable and balanced in the relationship. This card represents mutual interests and friendship. These qualities are excellent factors in a good relationships so this bodes well! Check out the spreads here: Day 8

Austin’s love interest.
3 of Wands
Ooh! Intriguing! Austin’s love interest is confident and patient. He sets plans into motion and waits for things to fall into place! Possibly Austin is one of his plans??

How they will meet.
5 of Wands
Seems like there is to be a battle of wills! How exciting! Will they meet chasing the same thing for different purposes? Will they compete against each other? I’m on the edge of my seat!

Where they will meet.
9 of Coins
This card depicts a luxurious garden so they must be meeting in the courtyard or private garden of an estate. I wonder who’s estate?

What their initial feelings are towards one another.
10 of Wands
Looks like they are in strong competition against each other. Power struggles are ensuing but obviously they have a spark of attraction too.

Outcome for the relationship.
The Chariot
Success is a likely outcome for their relationship if they are both determined to make it work. I see prosperous ventures for them if they work together.

The Love Interest

I wanted to KNOW who the love interest would turn out to be so I drew a card and, what do you know, it was the Knight of Coins which is our heroine, Austin! Could it be that she must learn to love herself before she can love another? I felt this required a second pull and so drew the Page of Cups. Seems he will be complex! When coupled with the 3 of Wands from above, it makes for a dynamic individual. Gentle and kind, but a bit romantic too. Because the Page is blond and blue eyed I assume our heroine’s love interest will be the same. Most likely he is a bit younger than she is as well. Exciting!
